BEHIND EVERY PIECE, A STORY

My story as a silversmith

Detail of a jewelry piece by Ursula Alcaino

Twenty years of creating, learning, and discovering new ways to express my vision through goldsmithing.

My journey with jewelry began long before I became a jeweler. From a young age, I’ve been particularly fascinated by earrings—a piece I consider essential to a woman’s self-expression and style.

Whether she’s an executive, an athlete, a mother, or a homemaker, every woman has her own way of expressing herself—and there’s always a pair of earrings to complement her. A piece of jewelry can brighten your face, enhance your beauty, and become part of your identity. But for me, its value lies not only in its aesthetics; it must also offer comfort, a natural look, and harmony with the person wearing it.

The Beginning of a Passion

In 2003, a piece sparked a fascination in me that would mark the beginning of my journey in jewelry. It was a hoop earring created by a renowned Spanish jeweler. I was captivated by its unconventional shape and the way a stone seemed to radiate light from within the polished silver. I had never seen anything like it.

That piece of jewelry sparked my curiosity and opened up a world of possibilities for me. I wanted to understand how those shapes were created, how the materials interacted, and how a piece could become an artistic expression. That’s when my passion for this craft was born.

A Journey of Continuous Learning

I began taking classes at various jewelry-making schools, convinced that learning was the path to creating what I wanted to make. Over time, I realized that mastering the techniques was only part of the process.

Goldsmithing demands passion, curiosity, dedication, and perseverance. It also requires patience to make mistakes, try again, and find new solutions. Every challenge becomes an opportunity to discover, refine, and push the boundaries of what we are capable of creating.

During my years of training, I learned lessons that have stayed with me to this day. I came to understand that goldsmithing is not just about mastering a technique: it is a living craft, constantly evolving, where each piece raises new questions and every experience can open a door to the unknown.

That's why I continue to seek out knowledge, explore materials, and refine my work. Because creating also means keeping curiosity alive, observing closely, and being willing to learn again and again.

Twenty years later, I still find in jewelry making a space to explore my artistic vision, transform ideas into tangible form, and bring to life pieces of jewelry that express more than just beauty.
